About the Book

Lessons Between Biscuits

At My Grandmother's Table is a story about growing up in the glow of a woman who didn't give lectures—she gave looks. She didn't preach—she cooked. And she didn't hand out advice in neat little packages. She served it between biscuits, across card tables, and during slow neighborhood walks where every bush had a name.

Set against the backdrop of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, this book gathers the kind of wisdom that settles into your bones long before you realize you're carrying it. From penny poker games and embroidered "lucky" hankies to pork chops "fit for a king," each chapter unfolds a lesson that once seemed ordinary—and later became life-defining.

A Grandmother Who Believed

"You can't fix it if you won't taste it."

"You catch more flies with honey than vinegar."

"You don't have to say everything you're thinking."

"Sometimes, you should just use the good china."

This isn't just a memoir. It's a return to Sunday dinners, grocery store diplomacy, handwritten recipes, and the quiet art of restraint. It's about the things elders say that don't land until you've lived enough to hear them properly.

Pull up a chair. You might recognize someone.

About the Author

Christie is a writer, educator, and lifelong collector of stories. She grew up in a world where wisdom was rarely announced — it was folded into biscuits, whispered over card games, and tucked between everyday moments that only later revealed their meaning.

Before becoming a writer, Christie built a life in classrooms. As an educator and curriculum specialist, she has spent decades helping children think deeply, ask better questions, and see connections others miss. That same curiosity shapes her storytelling. She doesn't just remember the past — she studies it, turns it over, and asks what it was trying to teach her.

She has lived abroad, traveled widely, reinvented herself more than once, and believes that it's never too late to begin again. But no matter how far she's gone — geographically or emotionally — she carries her grandmother's voice with her.

At My Grandmother's Table grew from that voice.

Christie writes about memory, resilience, restraint, food, faith, laughter, and the quiet strength of women who rarely called attention to themselves — but shaped generations anyway.

When she isn't writing, you can find her walking, gardening, planning her next project, or sketching out ideas for books she hasn't written yet (there are many).

She believes in using the good china.

In saying less.

And in leaving something sweet at the end.
